About This Wine
Too often, second label wines are an afterthought. They feature all the grapes that don’t make the cut for the estate’s grand vin. Not the case with Chateau Lafite Rothschild 'Carruades de Lafite'. This Bordeaux red blend is the rare example of a second wine that drinks above its label and has the performance to prove it.
The 2019 vintage features 68 cabernet sauvignon, 27 merlot, and 5 cabernet franc. It’s the highest percentage of cabernet sauvignon ever for this wine, which gives it a distinctive full-bodied savoriness common among great Paulliacs. Even in youth, 2019 Carruades de Lafite remains highly drinkable and should age gracefully over the next two decades.
The Final Sip: In the words of wine critic Jeb Dunnuck, “(2019 Carruades de Lafite) tastes more like a Grand Vin than a second wine.”
