When it comes to ranking white wines, Château d’Yquem sits in the highest tier…by itself. More than a century and a half later, Château d’Yquem continues to be a beacon of excellence for white Bordeaux.
The 2020 Château d’Yquem Y (pronounced Ygrec) is a dry white wine composed of sauvignon blanc and sémillon. The estate has made it on an irregular basis since 1959, with annual production never exceeding 1,700 cases. Grapes are handpicked at peak ripeness, giving Y maximum aromatic potential and Charmin soft tannins. Those lucky enough to try this crisp white wine will enjoy notes of citrus, orange peel, wildflowers, and roasted almonds with a surprisingly rich finish.
The Final Sip: Y comes from the same terroir and vines as Château d’Yquem's legendary sweet wines. The results suggest as much.
